"I am richer than Bill Gates"
When somebody makes the aformentioned statement it gets your attention. To say that you're richer than Bill Gates would be suggesting that in 1998 if you were to bend over and pick up a $10,000 bill off the ground (Assuming they were in circulation, they do exist believe it or not) you would be losing money. It would also be suggesting that your house is larger than the Microsoft founder's 66,000 square foot home (Which is equal to 1.5 acres of living space). It's an easily accepted fact that Bill Gates is one of the wealthiest men in the world, but you may notice the saying is not "I am wealthier than Bill Gates" rather the word rich is used. Defining the difference between wealth and riches is key in the point I'm trying to make. The definition of Rich isn't bound to the relation of wealth. In fact the 2nd definition of rich on answers.com was as follows:
2. Having great worth or value: a rich harvest of grain.
